Colored Clay Wheel - Wednesday Night

$520.00

Pottery Wheel throwing class - Wednesday Night

This class runs every Wednesday night from 7-9pm from April 30th until June 18th.

Clay is such an exciting and creative medium to work with and adding color makes it so much more interesting!  In this class you will learn the fundamentals of mixing and preparing your own colored clay and then how to throw it on the wheel for really beautiful effects.  Some traditional methods include nerikomi, neriage, agateware, scroddleware, and nemadji.  This class is a really fun opportunity to not only explore color in clay but also to experience paper clay repair and luster (akin to kintsugi) all in one course.
See our course outline below:

Week 1 Mixing primary and shading colors (no wheel time)
Week 2 Throwing on the potters wheel
Week 3 Color part II, secondary and custom colors.
Week 4 stacking vs inlay vs spiral
Week 5 Nerikomi and laminating the cylinder.  Trimming.
Week 6 Bisque deadline if lustering.
Week 7 Glazing (or naked clay)
Week 8 Luster application.  All fired works to be picked up in one week.

Students are assigned their own shelf for the duration of the course and open studio slots can be purchased at $20 for each 2-hour session.  Four quarter pound stains and 25lbs of clay are provided in the beginning of the term.  Students who need more clay must purchase their own.  No cancellations or refunds are given without at least 7 days notice before the beginning of the first class.  All refunds are subject to a $20 service fee. No refunds are given after the start of the first weeks class.
